St James’ Church is much loved as a welcoming and friendly community at the heart of Clacton-on-Sea. But during the cold months, the temperature in our beautiful building can’t match the warmth of our welcome – our ancient boilers struggle to heat the church, and our fuel bills are eye-watering!
So we’re running a once-in-a-generation fundraising appeal to put that right once and for all.
We want to:
-
- ensure that for decades to come people can enjoy and use our buildings with an efficient, flexible and effective heating system;
-
- completely end our reliance on gas (and on unpredictable gas prices);
-
- make our electrical supply as efficient as possible.

We’re looking to install the very latest electrical heating systems, together with solar panels and batteries to store the energy.
We’re already applying for grants and drawing on our financial reserves. Now we just need one last push of fundraising to get us over the line, and get this done!
It’s likely the we need to raise around £30,000 ourselves – and in the first 6 weeks of the appeal we have already raised £12,500
St James exists for the good of all in our community – not just our congregations and not just Christians – everyone! It is a landmark building for Clacton, with a stunningly beautiful interior.
Giving to the Warm Welcome Appeal will help us serve our community better, welcome more and more people, keep our hire rates for local organisations low, improve our facilities, increase the number of concerts and events we host across the winter months, and make our winter services nice and toasty! From our Soup Kitchen for the homeless and hungry, via visiting the isolated and elderly, to supporting schools and providing children’s work, we are dedicated to supporting our community.
Watch out for quizzes, concerts, film nights and other activities as we enjoy raising this money together as a community.
