Good Friday

14:30 - Solemn Liturgy

Last night we remembered the last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples. We broke bread and shared wine as he did, giving thanks that he gave us himself in this blessed sacrament. Today we continue the story by commemorating his passion and death.

At about 3 o’clock Christ breathed his last and died for our sins and the sins of the whole world. We shall remember this most holy act of love during our liturgy this afternoon. During the liturgy we will ask God for his mercy, we shall venerate the cross – that sign of victory over death; finally, we shall receive our Lord’s blessed body remembering that he hung there to save us.

After our liturgy the liturgy things go quiet as we sit and remember the desolation of Mary and the disciples who feared they’d lost Jesus for ever. We know otherwise, but we still think and pray for the dead and all those who mourn the loss of loved ones.

To be continued…
